Today we experimented with different planter designs in the EPC workshop, to find the most efficient use of the recycled materials in conjunction with the growing area required. We decided to focus on the timber we have accumulated from generous companies and individuals around Portsmouth, deconstructed by our team.

We created two different sized pallet planters. One of the planters (above) has been designed with a higher back to incorporate trellis for additional growing space, the second was built as a regular square planter, with the option for additional growing pockets to open up in the sides of the container. Each container is to be lined by pre-used tonne bags sourced from around Portsmouth, acting as a membrane to hold the compost in which the produce will be grown.

Due to the brilliant support from the EPC workshop staff and the Eldon Mini Farm team the design and construction process was quick and easy, allowing us to test various option in preparation for the farm opening.

In the future we are looking into a planter design event, in which the public will be encouraged to come along and help decorate the planters.

If you wish to get involved with the farm please contact us via the details on 'The Project' page.
